The ‘Fun Wedding’ Innovation

So much has changed since we realised our dream and launched Brisbane City Celebrants back in 2008, the same year our very own wedding took place!

Significantly noticeable has been the emergence of the ‘fun wedding’ movement. Everyone loves a dose of fun and laughter during a ceremony, it puts everyone at ease and really sets the celebratory tone for the day.

Still today we continue to see an increasing shift of weddings becoming less traditional and more about the couple celebrating in their own unique way.

5 years ago Jamie created and performed Brisbane couple Chani and Lindsay’s fun wedding ceremony which was featured on the premiere season of the ‘Four Weddings Australia’ TV show to huge acclaim.

Fun weddings were pretty unheard of at the time, and their wedding was such a huge success – judged best wedding the newly weds won a luxury honeymoon in the Maldives!

Following the airing of their episode we were inundated with enquiries from couples that fell in love with the idea of having a fun wedding that was still meaningful and special.

What an honour to be a part of the ‘fun wedding’ revolution!

This highly sought after rotunda is a popular choice for weddings. Offering so many features and benefits, from the historical 100+ year old structure, to the central riverside location, not to mention it’s so spacious, providing shade on sunny days, and shelter on rainy days, so no alternative wet weather venue is required.

Captain Burke Park

With the majestic Story Bridge giving a nod to Brisbane in the backdrop, with a large spacious grassed area, Captain Burke Park in Kangaroo Pt is a great location for a wedding ceremony.

Roma Street Parkland

With a variety of immaculately maintained lawns to choose from, Roma Street Parklands is an oasis in Brisbane City and even has wet weather options they can offer in the unlikely event the forecast doesn’t look favourable for your day (wet weather ceremony locations are subject to availability). Another unique feature of this park, is you can request permission for your wedding transport to drive you up to the entrance of your lawn.

It’s not surprising that so many couples choose Roma Street Parklands for their wedding ceremony. With a choice of six beautiful wedding sites, each surrounded by an abundance of greenery, Roma Street Parklands cater for the most small and intimate wedding to large groups of up to a thousand guests. With waterfalls, a lake, photogenic bridges and fine mist sprays, photo opportunities are abundant making this a favourite place for photographers to take their couples between their ceremony and reception.

Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens

The Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens have 3 wedding lawns to choose from, with Palm Tree Lawn being the most popular choice, perhaps for it’s privacy with surrounding greenery. A unique benefit of choosing to have your wedding ceremony here, is that (to the best of our knowledge) this is the only Brisbane wedding park that includes 20 x chairs as part of your booking!

Your wedding photographer will be in their element here with the abundance of beautiful landscapes and photo opportunities.

Sherwood Arboretum

This centrally located venue certainly has the wow factor, the garden marquee ceremony site has sweeping views of the city, which is equally as impressive when the sunset and the colourful city lights come to life. When a myriad of brides to be mentioned they had seen Jamie featured in Bride to Be Australia, curiosity got the better of us and we just had to rush out and snap up a copy to find out which wedding had been published.

We couldn’t have been happier when we opened the magazine to see Paul and Paul’s exquisite Cloudland wedding, immaculately captured by the highly renowned Studio Impressions Photography.

The feature shares the story of the surprise proposal that took place at Paul’s 30th birthday party, the romance of sipping on French champagne in Paris while shopping for Paul’s engagement ring at Cartier and how Sex & the City’s Charlotte’s black mermaid style bridesmaid dress was their inspiration for their ‘groomsmaids’.

Cloudland was a perfect fit for the owners of a leading Gold Coast hairdressing salon, being fashionable and sophisticated it provided the perfect atmosphere for both their ceremony and reception to take place.

The connection between the 2 grooms throughout the ceremony was captivating! There were tears, smiles and roars of laughter.

Their love shined throughout the ceremony which was only enhanced by the guests glowing with pride and happiness for the two grooms.

With rain on the agenda, the ceremony took place on the deck of Toowing Rowing Club. Brisbane City Celebrants are huge fans of wedding venues like this one that offer such great wet weather options, it really takes the stress away from couples when the weather forecast looks uncertain, with the knowledge that regardless of the weather the ceremony setting will still be stunning.

The very talented Anthony Hoang of Lover of Mine was on hand to capture this special day, which involved a happy and sweet ceremony with a crazy in love, besotted bride and groom surrounded by a room full of happy, smiling guests beaming with love. My kind of wedding.

Lover of Mine did a fantastic job working with the wet weather with a creative bridal photo shoot, before accompanying the happy couple at funky Fortitude Valley venue Mirra where they celebrated the night away with loved ones.

Surprise wedding at 66 on Ernest in Southbank

I loved having such an integral role in pulling off this surprise wedding at 66 on Ernest in Southbank.

Nikky Elizabeth Photographer was on hand to capture these magical moments when half way through the fun joint birthday party of the bride and groom, the secret room was revealed, the music played and to everyone’s surprise the birthday girl had transformed in to a glowing bride making her way down the aisle to her waiting groom.

There is something very special about surprise weddings, as the room of loved ones simultaneously fills with gasps, cheers and elation when they realise that to their surprise, they are actually about to witness a wedding!

Nikky Elizabeth Photographer was kind enough to surprise me by sending these photos through accompanied by the following kind words “We all commented on how good you were as a Celebrant”.

Oh shucks, thank you Nikky. It really is so important for all the bride and grooms wedding suppliers to work well together and I am all about working as a team with photographers, DJ’s and venue staff.

I am always as accommodating as I can be and will always step to the side and well out of the way when it comes to the bride and grooms first kiss as husband and wife, so you will never catch me photo bombing this once in a lifetime shot.

Being based just minutes from Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane City Celebrants have had the pleasure of performing many weddings here over the years so we know the area and ceremony sites well. Wedding Lawn 1 (Palm Tree Lawn) is one of our favourite ceremony spots having recently been landscaped to create a flat surface, it’s surrounded by the lush botanical gardens greenery allowing privacy from passing public.

Christine and Toby had a small and super sweet wedding accompanied by 14 of their close family at a new Brisbane wedding venue called The Gardens Club.

The couple were taken by the character of the building as well as it’s great location and surrounds and when they found out that all the profits from their wedding would go to local community charities, they knew they had found the perfect wedding venue!

Kate from Quince and Mulberry Studios was on hand to capture this very special day which commenced with a short and super sweet morning ceremony on the paved area outside the Gardens Club, overlooking the City Botanic Gardens, with the skyline of Brisbane’s CBD in the backdrop.

Christine and Toby secured Brisbane Marriage Celebrant Jamie Eastgate as their Celebrant for their small and intimate wedding at Brisbanes Gardens Club, which is located in a prime spot in the heart of Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds accompanied their photographer Kate to the nearby grounds of QUT followed by a stroll through the City Botanic Gardens where these stunning images were captured.

The bride and groom then made their way back to the Gardens Club for a celebratory lunch time reception with their families.
