Karen Tran in Brisbane!

When Karen Tran came to Brisbane!

With Celebrant Cara Hodge of Brisbane City Celebrants

Karen Tran is an international floral designer who is highly regarded by florists worldwide and who’s glamorous work fills many brides ‘Wedding inspo’ boards on Pinterest.

Within the wedding industry she is quite the star so needless to say there was much excitement when Karen Tran came to Brisbane and hosted a gala dinner dripping with opulence and of course thousands and thousands of flowers.

I was thrilled to be a guest of honour at this stunning event accompanied by other local wedding and international wedding professionals.

The event took place at Hillstone St Lucia, a venue we both know very well as local Celebrants we have performed many weddings here over the years.

The venue was absolutely breath taking, after mingling with fellow guests over a glass of bubbles and canapes I entered though a door way covered by an arch of fresh flowers, and to my surprise I was greeted by a warm and friendly Karen Tran in front of a huge flower wall, full of fresh roses in various pastel shades. I took the opportunity of a photo with the lady herself before taking a walk around the room to take in every magnificent little detail.

A generous team of sponsors had donated their time and expertise to bring the event together which included a company that creates flower walls with artificial flowers, these adorned the ceiling and rear wall while the tables were full of extravagant displays of orchids and roses. Undoubtedly more flowers than I have ever seen in one room in my life!

The food and service was exceptional and I loved getting to meet new people and hearing the stories of their businesses as we all shared so much passion and a love for the wedding industry.

I am so grateful that I got to experience something so special and I have no doubt we will be seeing more of Karen Tran’s signature floral extravaganza style here in QLD as she left such a wonderful impression on everyone that attended.

Celebrant Recommendation – Pacific Golf Club Wedding

With Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

To say I am absolutely blown away with the Celebrant recommendation I received from Flora and Ben following their very special big day would be an understatement!

Flora and Ben enjoyed a stunning ceremony on a beautiful day beneath a tree at the Pacific Golf Club in Carindale and it was all captured perfectly by the lovely Larissa of LD Imagery.

During their ceremony, we shared the story of how they connected and grew together, they exchanged vows and rings then sealed the deal before making their way back down the aisle as their guests showered in bubbles!

Celebrant Recommendation – Pacific Golf Club Wedding

Here is the glowing recommendation I received from the groom on behalf of the happy newlyweds.

“Jamie – what can I say! You are a gentleman and a genuine master of your craft. You put me at ease and your own love for life shines through in your work.

Please let us know how we can return the favour e.g. phone reference, written or social media stuff. Thanks again and take care big feller.” Ben

Ben also left the following 5 star review on our Brisbane City Celebrants Facebook page.

“Wow! Jamie is an absolute professional whose passion for life, calm and caring personality is just brilliant.

He made some great suggestions regarding the ceremony so I would say he has a ‘consultative’ approach which really sets him apart.

Jamie calmed my nerves and kept it fun. He even managed to keep me (the husband) engaged in planning / scripting of the vows which is no easy task, ladies take note: Jamie actually got a man to do some planning haha!  I am only getting married once, but I would have no hesitation in recommending Jamie to family, friends and colleagues.

Thanks again” – Ben & Flora – Pacific Golf Club Wedding

Elopement spots at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens

Elopement spots at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens

With Brisbane City Celebrants

As Mt Coot-tha locals and Marriage Celebrants, we often get asked by eloping couples if we can suggest any special little spots in the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens for their elopement to take place.

Before I go on to tell you about these gorgeous little spots, I need to mention:

a. The following elopement sites aren’t available for booking, while this does means there is no booking fee payable, we also don’t have the usual authority to politely move members of the public on (although we have only ever known people to be courteous and move on once they realise a wedding is about to take place).

b. The following photos were all taken on a camera phone, we are in no way, shape or form photographers so you can rest assured that the sites look much more picturesque in person and will look a thousand times better in professional photos!

Mt Coot-tha Elopement Site 1 – The Point

This picturesque spot that juts out in to the lagoon is simply beautiful, giving you the feeling that you are almost completely surrounded by water and photo opportunities looking on to this spot are abundant from around the lagoon. This is also a perfect spot for ‘reflection’ photos as the lagoon is tranquil and still.

Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Elopement Site 1 20151128_081509_resizedAs the point isn’t fenced it may not be a suitable area if young children are in attendance.

Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Elopement Site 1

During our visit the lagoon was full of pastel pink and blue lotus flowers with ducks floating between them and nesting in the lagoon.

Mt Coot-tha Elopement Site 2 – Lovers Jetty

This romantic little spot sits over the lagoon and could comfortably hold a group of 10 guests for an intimate elopement.

During our morning visit this gorgeous spot was very well shaded by the willow tree making it an ideal location for a summer elopement.

Mt Coot-tha Elopement Site 3 – The Lawn

Looking back over the Gardens with the mount in the backdrop, The Lawn is a quiet spot for an intimate Mt Coot-tha Gardens elopement also suited for a larger number of guests. However wedding furnishings are not permitted so guests would need to stand.

This area has a covered gazebo on either side each with a picnic table and benches where the signing of the marriage documents, or post ceremony nibbles and drinks could take place.

This is considered the most child friendly area and a recently built children’s playground is just a few steps further around the path to keep the little ones entertained.

What if it rains?

We thought of that too, every wedding ceremony spot needs a wet weather option and this little gazebo nestled just behind site 2 is our top pick of the perfect wet weather alternative location.

It overlooks the lagoon and is no more than a 5 minute walk from any of these elopement spots at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens.

It would also make a great spot for a post wedding celebratory drink and nibbles.

Directions

The Brisbane Botanic Gardens are open daily between 8am- 5.30pm (closing at 5pm during April to August).

Park on the cafe side of the car park (to the left as you drive in) and follow the footpath beside the cafe and turn left, where you will walk past the back of the cafe and see the lagoon in front of you. The sites listed are shown on the following map.

An interview with Queensland’s No.1 Celebrant

An interview with Queensland’s No.1 Celebrant

With Celebrant Jamie Eastgate of Brisbane City Celebrants

It is such a huge honour for Jamie to be Queensland’s no.1 recommended Marriage Celebrant on Google, and we are simply in disbelief at all the amazing reviews that our couples write about their experience with each of us!

We are so grateful for all the support and kind words we have received from the wedding industry and we feel very privileged to have this milestone recognised by WEOA, who recently interviewed Jamie and featured the interview on their blog.

The team at WEOA even awarded Brisbane City Celebrants an outstanding excellence award in recognition of all of our dedication, commitment and passion in our role as Celebrants.

Certificate to honor Brisbane City Celebrants outstanding excellence award

We are so excited to announce that one of our most dedicated members has reached an impressive milestone.

Jamie of Brisbane City Celebrants was recently named Google’s Number 1, Most Recommended Celebrant for Brisbane and Queensland. What’s even more exciting is that his wife and partner in business, Ciara, is the 2nd Most Recommended Celebrant for Brisbane!

This wonderful couple are a dedicated pair of Marriage Celebrants who have been crafting unique and beautiful wedding ceremonies for years. As well as having countless 5 star testimonials from happy clients, they were recognised as one of the top three Celebrants in Queensland at the WEOA Awards for Excellence in 2014.

We caught up with the proud couple about this fantastic achievement and tips they have for couples when looking for a celebrant of their own.

Jamie, how do you feel about being the most highly recommended Marriage Celebrant in Queensland?

The best thing about achieving this milestone is the hearing that my clients have had an amazing day and that I have been a part of making their day even more special. Most of my couples haven’t been married before so they don’t have a comparison, however they know if it was a stress free process, if everything went seamlessly, and if the ceremony was a huge success!

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

Every wedding is unique. I love getting to be a part of the happiness at such a special moment in peoples lives.

Do you have any tips for couples who are looking for a celebrant?

There are such a huge variety of Celebrants available, so when it comes to finding a Celebrant that you gel with, there really is the right one out there for every couple.

Make sure you ask your prospective Celebrant if you will get to proof your ceremony wording so there are no unwanted surprises on the day. Also ask if they provide a high quality PA System so everyone can clearly hear and enjoy your ceremony and vows.

Finally, if they have any video clips of them performing a ceremony – watch them! This is a great way to not only see how they present themselves for a ceremony, but if they have the couple perfectly centered without their backs to anyone, if they appear to coordinate a smooth and seamless ceremony, put the couple at ease and if the tone that they present the ceremony in is appropriate and reflective of the exciting and happy celebration of love that a wedding is!

Do you have any tips for couples planning their ceremony?

Make the ceremony yours. If there is anything that doesn’t sit comfortably with you (such as a giving away or garter toss), don’t feel pressured to do it, or change it and do it your own unique way. You will enjoy your ceremony so much more and your guests will love your personal touches!

We are very proud of Jamie and Ciara and hope that they keep up their fantastic work.

At WEOA, we love to hear about the achievements of our members. After all, they are the elite of the wedding and events industry and it’s always great to see their hard work and dedication pay off. Plus, it’s always an excuse for a celebration!”

We’re off to pop open the champas now!

With Celebrant Cara Hodge of Brisbane City Celebrants

On a perfect October day Jess and Cameron said their ‘I DO’s’ at this very beautiful spot, Fig Tree Avenue at the City Botanic Gardens.

I received these beautiful photos and feedback from the happy couple which I am so excited to share with you.

As a Celebrant not only do I love how beautiful these photos are, but also how perfectly centred the couple were for both the ceremony and the kiss!

Admittedly I am a bit of a perfectionist and love having my couples perfectly centred with the arbour while allowing the photographer ample opportunity to capture all the special moments (without me in the shot).

“Cara was fantastic from the very beginning. The blog posts I read online about tips for your ceremony were fantastic and I knew I wanted to contact her straight away.

From the first time we met she was great, everything was so simple and personalised for us.

The wording she put together for the ceremony was excellent and she helped ensure the vows we wrote secretly were both on the write track.

Everyone who attended loved how great the ceremony was with a mix of humour and a relaxed atmosphere.

I would very highly recommend Cara to anyone and everyone who asks.”

“Cara, Thank you so much for everything we had a wonderful day and thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony. We have had so many comments from guests  on how much they loved the relaxed atmosphere and the humour in our ceremony so thank you so much for all your help in making it exactly how we envisioned.

We loved the configuration of the bridal party and where you stood on the day which made our photos so perfect!
Thanks again so much, Jess & Cameron”

New process for QLD Marriage Certificate applications

New process for QLD Marriage Certificate applications

With Celebrants Cara & Jamie of Brisbane City Celebrants

In order for a couple to prove their marriage or for the bride to take her grooms last name through marriage, a marriage certificate issued by BDM (Births, Deaths and Marriages) is required.

The presentation certificate that you receive on your wedding day isn’t considered sufficient evidence for either of these purposes.

As a complimentary service and to expedite this process, Brisbane City Celebrants have offered our clients the option of providing us with their completed application for their registry issued marriage certificate to lodge with BDM with their official marriage documents.

However, following a change of process for QLD Marriage certificate applications, QLD BDM are no longer allowing Marriage Celebrants to submit this form on behalf of our couples, so we have outlined the new process here.

Either the bride or groom now needs to apply for their ‘registry issued marriage certificate’ directly.

If you haven’t already completed the marriage certificate application form, you can download the PDF form here and complete and print it, or complete it online here then print it.

For those couples that have already completed the application form and have provided it to us, we will return your completed form to you by including this in the envelope with your official marriage certificate on the day.

You will need to prepare the following which you now need to submit with your application:

One item from each of the following lists:

For example;

– Your passport or Drivers License

– Your Medicare card or bank card with your full name

– Proof of address, e.g. recent utility account, rent statement or rates notice
